Here are our credit considerations for an applicant and how it can affect the terms of our approvals, not in the order of most importance because one area of strength can make up for another of weakness and that is how our model is flexible: 1. Down payment. If a customer has up to 40% down payment on their two truck purchase we can get around almost every other issue. If a wrecker or tow truck buyer requires little to no money down then the other areas of credit below must outweigh this down payment factor. 2. Commercial credit history. If the tow truck buyer has atleast 2 years of experience financing their current tow truck or wrecker this will make getting good terms much easier. Without any prior commercial finance experience the other areas of credit must outweigh the lack of prior financing experience. Startup towing companies are still okay here but in almost all cases will need a strong down payment. 3. Personal credit score. With commercial credit being the most important factor when scoring an applicant, personal credit can hurt you more than it can help you. To be clear, a 500 credit score can kick an applicant out of a low down payment and good interest rate but a 700+ credit score does not mean you get the best rate and lowest down payment unless it is accompanied by satisfactory commercial credit history. Every case is unique and there are situations where someone with a 700+ credit, 2+yrs owning their own tow truck, can still get the best market terms. Or a first time buyer with strong personal credit can get their first truck financed with great terms. Please call and check with us before determining yourself. 4. Equipment Value. To be simple a new truck from a dealership is the most ideal and a 20 year old truck with high mileage from a private seller is a major weakness.
