Why HDD financing is different

Most equipment lenders don't understand HDD. The rigs are expensive ($75K-$500K+), the support equipment is specialized, and the buyer base is split between large utility contractors and small specialty boring shops. Banks that don't see HDD deals regularly will either over-price the risk or decline outright.

HDD is a growing part of our book. We know the manufacturers (Vermeer dominates, Ditch Witch is the strong #2, American Augers serves the large-utility space). We work with any dealer or private seller. We know which programs are open to fiber-buildout contractors right now and which ones aren't. That market knowledge is what 22 years of commercial equipment finance buys you.

No one bank beats our flexibility.

How we structure HDD deals

  1. You call us or send the application. Three-minute phone diagnosis or 60-second pre-qual form.
  2. We underwrite your profile — terms based on credit tier, equipment age, time in business, the specific HDD class, and which program is funding utility contractors right now.
  3. We bring real terms. Down payment, monthly payment, term, and what we'd need to close. Spread-financing options if you're funding the rig plus support equipment together.
  4. You sign and get insurance, the equipment funds. Direct to the dealer or private seller. DocuSign close in many cases.

Most HDD deals close in a week or less when paperwork is moving.

Typical HDD deal structure

  • Strong-credit established contractor (2+ years TIB): zero down up to 15% down, 48-60 month term, competitive monthly payment
  • Newer contractor (under 2 years TIB) with prior commercial experience: 15-25% down, 48-60 month term
  • Startup or thin-credit file: 20-30% down, 36-48 month term, specialty program with higher monthly
  • Full spread financing: rig + vacuum excavator + locator + trailer + support truck bundled into one deal — strong-credit contractors often qualify for one combined loan

Strong credit usually gets zero or low down on a Tier 1 program. Lower credit usually gets a higher down payment. We're flexible enough to handle every scenario.
